El-Sisi–Petro Summit in Cairo Outlines a New Egyptian–Colombian Partnership for Development and Stability

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held extensive talks on Friday, October 31, with his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, who is on a working visit to Cairo heading a high-level delegation. The discussions focused on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchange views on key regional and international issues.

President El-Sisi welcomed President Petro, praising the friendly relations between Egypt and Colombia, and expressing Egypt’s keenness to expand areas of economic, trade, and investment cooperation, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, aviation, and tourism. He also commended the positive momentum witnessed in bilateral ties, stressing Cairo’s commitment to opening new horizons for partnership with Latin American countries.

For his part, President Petro expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s regional and international standing and his admiration for the country’s development renaissance and national projects. He affirmed Colombia’s desire to establish a long-term institutional partnership with Egypt in economic, cultural, and development fields.

The talks also addressed regional developments, with President Petro commending Egypt’s active role in supporting peace and stability efforts in the Middle East. President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation to address global challenges, foremost among them economic crises and the repercussions of climate change.

The meeting concluded with both leaders affirming the importance of maintaining close coordination between Egypt and Colombia in international forums and intensifying cooperation in areas such as clean energy and combating organized crime — efforts that contribute to achieving sustainable development and reinforcing regional and global stability.
